- Wild or Farmed: Wild
- Availability: Year Round
- Package Size: 1 Lb
- Form: Frozen
- Presentation: Pre-cooked. Ready to thaw and eat
- Harvest Area: Alaska
- Scientific Name: Thunnus thynnus
- Size and Shell Texture: Alaska King crab legs are massive, thick, and covered in spikes that require kitchen shears to cut through. In contrast, Snow crab clusters feature long, slender legs with much smoother, thinner shells that you can easily snap open using just your hands.
- Meat Texture and Yield: King crab offers thick, dense, and lobster-like chunks of meat, yielding a substantial amount from a single leg. Snow crab meat is more delicate, tender, and fibrous, shredding into smaller flakes that require harvesting from multiple legs to match the bulk of a King crab.
- Flavor Profile: King crab delivers an intensely rich, decadent, and deeply sweet taste. Snow crab presents a milder, sweet flavor balanced with a slightly brinier, fresh-ocean accent.
- Price and Availability: King crab is considered a top-tier luxury item, commanding a high price point due to shorter harvest seasons and strict catch limits. Snow crab is far more abundant, widely available, and generally much friendlier on the wallet.
- Chef's Tip: To preserve the tender texture of the meat, avoid overcooking. Since the crab is already pre-cooked, you can eat it cold as is or warm it up.
- Thaw: For the best results, place the frozen crab piece in your refrigerator overnight (for 8-12 hours).
- Serve: Crack open the thick shell and enjoy immediately alongside hot drawn garlic butter, fresh lemon wedges, and your favorite sides.
Frozen items are shipped with dry ice to ensure the arrive fully frozen. Please place them directly into your freezer upon arrival.
If you order fresh and frozen items together, we package your shipment using gel ice packs instead of dry ice to protect your fresh goods. As a result, frozen items may partially thaw during transit. You can safely place them straight back into your freezer, or allow them to finish defrosting and enjoy right away.
Defrosting Guidelines
- Overnight in the Fridge: Small packs take 6–12 hours; large packs take 12–48 hours.
- Cold Water Bowl: Submerge sealed items in cold water for a faster thaw.
- Note: Do not use hot water or attempt to thaw by cooking, as this ruins the natural texture and flavor.
