Because oysters reflect the unique terroir (or merroir) of their environment, Rowley River Babes absorb the nutrient-dense, dynamic tides of the Rowley River estuary.

  • Mid-Palette: Hints of fresh cucumber and subtle vegetative notes from the surrounding salt marsh grasses.
  • Finish: Remarkably smooth, clean, and buttery.

Rowley River Babe Oysters are grown and harvested by The Great Marsh Shellfish Company, founded and operated by local North Shore native Brendon Doyle. Rooted in generations of local fishing heritage, the farm sits right at the mouth of the Rowley River.

  • Hand-Crafted Care: Every oyster is raised using a multi-stage tumbling and floating cage method. As the natural tides rise and fall, the equipment gently shapes the oysters, creating strong, easy-to-shuck shells with beautifully deep cups.
  • In-Water Overwintering: Unlike farms that store oysters in cold storage facilities on land during winter, Great Marsh Shellfish keeps their stock submerged in the deep waters of Plum Island Sound year-round, developing a distinct richness and depth of flavor.
  • Eco-Friendly & Sustainable: As natural filter feeders, these oysters actively improve local water quality and support native marsh ecology, making every dozen a win for both your plate and the New England coast.

Rain Closures and Red Tide can affect the year-round availability and price of Rowley River Oysters. Click here to read our blog post explaining all the external factors that can affect the availability of wild-caught seafood.

Our live shellfish ship via Priority Overnight with gel packs to ensure maximum freshness and vitality upon delivery. We recommend cooking and enjoying your live shellfish within 1 to 2 days of arrival for the best quality and flavor.

Store immediately in the coldest part of your refrigerator. Do not put live shellfish in your freezer.  Keep shellfish in an open-top container or bowl, never store them in sealed plastic bags or airtight containers, as live shellfish require oxygen.  Never store live shellfish in standing tap water or ice water.

Shells should be closed, unless they are Live Scallops, Steamers, Razors, or Live Surf Clams as the shells naturally stay open and never fully close due to its anatomy. If any are open, give them a gentle tap and check for movement, if they don't pull shut, discard them.
