The Tom Slaughter Fleet
Meet the Tom Slaughter fleet, a tribute to the surf clam fisherman who pioneered the industry. These 3 Intershell vessels embody the spirit of Tom Slaughter, who discovered the rich clam beds of Cultivator Shoal. He mentored Intershell's owner, Monte Rome, back in the late 90s.
Monte named 3 fishing vessels after his friend Tom Slaughter, who was the greatest catcher of Surf Clams of all time.
These boats are workhorses, fishing for up to 48 hours straight! They harvest North Atlantic Surf Clams, hauling in a whopping 10,000-26,000 pounds per pull. Commercial clamming is no joke - battling tides and navigating the dredge takes serious skill.
This is a tribute to the hard work of fishermen like Tom and the crews who bring this delicious seafood to us.

F/V Hotate
One of our Scallop Boats is named F/V Hotate, which Hotate means the Japanese term for "scallop," reflecting the boat's primary catch.
Scallop harvesting takes place in different locations throughout the year: Stellwagen Bank in April and the Great South Channel (east of Cape Cod) for the remainder of the year.

F/V Rose Bing
The Intershell Fleet continues to grow with the arrival of the F/V Rose Bing. This scallop boat, previously based in New Orleans, Louisiana, has braved the elements, including surviving Hurricane Ida (Category 4) in 2021, to make its journey to Gloucester, Massachusetts.
Named after Monte Rome's daughter, Rose Bing Rome, the F/V Rose Bing is a testament to resilience and determination. As a day-boat scallop vessel, its is a familiar sight on the Gloucester waterfront, contributing to the local fishing industry.

F/V Wyandot
F/V Wyandot honors the legacy of the Wyandot County Indian tribe. These historic people, once thriving in Ohio, have a rich history that stretches back centuries.
Originally known as the Wendat, the Wyandot were a confederacy of tribes that migrated from southern Canada to what is now northern Ohio. They settled in Wyandot, Marion, and Crawford Counties, drawn to the region's fertile soil, temperate climate, and abundant wildlife.
The Wyandot played a significant role in the history of Ohio, interacting with European settlers and participating in various conflicts. Their contributions to the region's cultural and historical tapestry are undeniable.
By naming the F/V Wyandot after this remarkable tribe, Monte Rome pays tribute to his hometown's heritage and acknowledges the enduring spirit of the Wyandot people.
